Perinatal psychiatry focuses on the diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of mental health disorders during pregnancy and the postpartum period. This includes postpartum mood disorders such as postpartum depression and anxiety. This also includes treating preexisting psychiatric diagnoses through pregnancy and the postpartum period.

When clinically indicated, I prescribe medication during pregnancy and the postpartum period. The decision to initiate medication is made collaboratively and thoughtfully with safety as the highest priority. It requires weighing the risks and benefits of medication in relation to symptom severity and individual circumstances. All treatment options are discussed and medication is only one of many possible approaches.

Many psychiatric medications can be taken while breastfeeding. Recommendations to initiate medication while breastfeeding are made collaboratively and with safety as the top priority. We will discuss breastmilk transmission, risks, and benefits, and alternatives at length prior to making any medication decisions.

Your initial appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. This includes current symptoms, mental health history, medical background, pregnancy health, birth plan or experience, and treatment goals. This visit will allow us to start developing our treatment goals and discussing treatment options.

This varies based on the individual. During early treatment, visits are often more frequent and become less frequent as symptoms stabilize.

Yes. At this time, I am only accepting patient who are pregnant or within one year of giving birth.

No. I am an out-of-network provider and do not work with insurance plans. This allows for greater flexibility and individually-tailored care. A superbill can be provided upon request,
